Major props go out to power-house entertainment manager Benny Medina, A&R gurus Chris Hicks and Jaha Johnson (all members of the recently-formed music industry fraternity the Content Group), along with publicists Miatta David & Tamar Juda, for hosting an elegant and exclusive, red-carpet luncheon at the posh Murano restaurant on Melrose in West Hollywood, Friday, February 8.
The event was held to honor the career achievements of music industry moguls Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records and super-producer Jimmy Jam.
With an elite group of about a 100 or so professionals, it was a virtual who’s who in the music industry—primarily a number of key African American record executives, music publishers and songwriter-producers. Among those in attendance were Mary J. Blige and husband/manager Kendu Isaacs; Sylvia Rhone; L.A. Reid; Kevin Liles; Shakir Stewart (Island/Def Jam); Shawn Holiday, Jeff Harleston, Ron Fair (IGA); Juan Madrid (Sony/ATV); Jeanie Weems, Alonzo Robinson, Jay Sloan (ASCAP); Catherine Brewton, Wardell Malloy (BMI); Gail Mitchell (Billboard Magazine); Suzanne Depasse; Valerie Patton (Chrysalis Pub.); Big Jon Platt and Roger Faxson (EMI Music Pub); Michael Mauldin; Doug Morris, Mel Lewinter (Universal Music Group); Chaka Zulu (DTP); in addition to songwriter-producers Jermaine Dupri, DJ Toomp, Sean Garrett, Rodney Jerkins, Warryn Campbell, and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart.
Lunch consisted of three-course lunch of greens, a choice of chicken, salmon or risotto, and two desserts.
