Auto Review Archives - SUVs, Crossovers & Trucks

acura_zdxEvery once in a while you catch a glimpse of a car on the road and ask yourself, ‘what is that?’ Then you shake it off.  Later at a music industry event I see the same car on display and recite Will Smith‘s dialog from Independence Day, ‘I have got to get me one of these’ – or in my case ‘review’ one of these…lol!

The object of my affection was the new 2010 Acura ZDX. This other-worldly offering truly is nothing like anything on the road. Captain Kirk could easily get his cruise on in this cross-over and not feel any spaceship withdrawals. Boldly going where no auto manufacturer has gone before, Acura has put their foot down and in the proverbial asses of their competitors.

Statement making designs shape the inner and outer style of the ZDX. The ‘look at me’ chrome-laced grille sets the stage for the ‘attitude adjustment’ coming your way with its embedded smirk. The body of the ZDX appears to be one continuous fluid line that slopes and cascades from the front fender, rocker panels and then on to the rear quarter panels.

acura_engineThe style of the ZDX is not the only head-turning aspect of this sexy cross-over…its power has its contemporaries kickin’ rocks! Packing 300 ponies from a 3.7 liter SOHC 24-Valve VTEC V6 engine coupled with a 6-Speed Automatic Transmission with a very cool Sequential Sport-Shift, offered and exhilarating driving experience. The respectable 16/23 mpg was a welcomed sight for a cross-over with this much power. The SH-AWD (Super Handling- All Wheel Drive) paired with the Paddle Shifters teases the ‘inner speed racer,’ on the open road.

acura_interiorThe interior of the ZDX was just as alluring as its outward experiences. The Panoramic Glass Roof w/ Power Sunshades, Xenon HID Headlights, Buttery Premium Leather-trimmed Perforated and Heated Sport Seats, 10-Way Power Driver’s Seat, Wood Accents and a monochromatic color scheme give the ZDX a luxurious high-tech feel.

The ZDX wouldn’t have the “TECH” branding if it wasn’t chock-full-of technological automotive marvels. The ‘Tech Package’ comes with Acura’s navigation System w/ Voice Recognition and Multi-View Rear Camera. It’s kinda cool that you can set the camera up for a 360 degree view of your surroundings. The AcuraLink Communication System with Real-Time Traffic and Weather came in handy on Southern California’s always-jammed-packed 405. Many-a-headache was avoided with this early warning system. This audiophile was all-a-twitter with the Acura/ELS Surround\System with 10 Speakers, AM/FM/CD, DVD, Dolby Pro Logic II and a Hard Disk Drive for storing your own driving soundtrack.

So get in buckle up and enjoy the ride.
